Why nurses leave the profession Part 1

Abstract
This article introduces a three-part series investigating the reasons why nurses leave their profession. Based on a research study carried out in one district health authority in North West England, the first part describes the project and analyses the reasons why individual nurses left their jobs. The pressures described by the nurses, brought on by a lack of staff and resources, and the implications for Government and health service managers are discussed.
