Modifications of the ICRP Task Group Lung Model to Reflect Age-Dependence

Abstract
The results of calculations on the age dependence of a variety of parameters appearing in the Task Group Lung Model of the ICRP are presented. In particular, this paper contains information on the effect of age on regional deposition, removal by the mouth, retention in the tracheobronchial region following deposition on the mucociliary blanket, and traversal of the TB region by material deposited in the pulmonary region. All requisite calculations were performed with the use of a detailed age dependent lung model developed by the authors, with results averaged to ensure compatibility with the ICRP Task Group Lung Model.
