Abstract
An incremental finite element formulation for elasto‐plastic bodies subjected to large strains and large displacements is presented in this paper. The formulation is in Lagrangian co‐ordinates (material description) and the plasticity model employed is the extended von Mises. The bearing capacity of a strip footing and the stability of an earth slope illustrate the applicability of this theory. Keywords
