Abstract
A clinical discussion of the anatomy, pathology and treatment of anterior recurrent dislocation of the shoulder based on 45 consecutive non-paralytic cases over a period of 10 years is presented. No single constant pathological-anatomical change could be attributed to the cause of the recurrence. The changes were the effects rather than the causes. The etiology of the condition was described on the basis of newer concepts of the shoulder mechanism. Of the 45 consecutive cases treated by posterior transfer of the latissimus dorsi over a period of 10 years, 35 cases showed excellent, 3 good and 2 poor results. None of the cases had recurrence. The materials are presented in the form of tables and are illustrated by line drawings and photographs of the patients showing movements and various ranges of movements that are possible.
