Abstract
An analytic expression is derived for the resolution of a twin-rotor neutron time-of-flight spectrometer, assuming Gaussian time delay and collimation functions. A formulation is used which is similar to that used by Cooper and Nathans (Acta. cryst. 23 (1967) 357) in the derivation of the resolution function of a three-crystal neutron diffractometer, so that a direct comparison of the results in the two cases is possible. The results of example calculations are also presented and discussed. Keywords
