Abstract
Aureomycin has been shown to be active in vitro against many bacteria, including certain penicillin-resistant strepto-mycin-resistant, and streptomycin-dependent microorganisms with no marked tendency to development of resistance in vitro on repeated exposure to aureomycin, though a moderate increase in resistance occurred in some strains. The concn. of the antibiotic required for complete inhibition of bacteria is influenced by the no. of organisms present, their phase of growth, and pH. Aureomycin is a stable prepn. as a dry powder in sealed ampoules and also in high concns. in soln. in dist. water at 4 C and 37 C. It loses potency rapidly if stored in low concns. in broth, plasma, or in blood agar at 37 C, though it is somewhat more stable in these media at 4 C.Keywords
