Abstract
This editorial indicates the difficulties that have ocurred in arriving at a firm conclusion regarding the efficacy of corticosteroid treatment in preventing heart disease in rheumatic fever. Although there is still some uncertainty whether all patients with rheumatic fever with carditis should be treated with steroids, there seems to be general agreement that patients with severe toxic rheumatic fever accompanied by pancarditis should be treated vigorously with corticosteroids. Keywords
