Abstract
In 1,000 unselected patients attending a venereal disease clinic, the Reiter Protein complement-fixation test (RPCF) was studied in parallel with the Wassermann test and Price''s precipitation reaction. Of the 288 patients who reacted positively to one or more tests, 97 had a positive RPCF with negative standard tests. The treponemal Wassermann reaction was found to be positive in 51 of 79 of these cases tested, and there was evidence of past or present treponemal infection in 82 of these patients. The authors therefore conclude that the RPCF test is more sensitive and more specific than the standard tests. Keywords
