THE EFFECT OF A PROLINE-RICH POLYPEPTIDE (PRP) ON THE HUMORAL IMMUNE-RESPONSE .1. DISTINCT EFFECT OF PRP ON THE T-CELL PROPERTIES OF MOUSE GLASS-NONADHERENT (NAT) AND GLASS-ADHERENT (GAT) THYMOCYTES IN THYMECTOMIZED MICE

Abstract
Using thymectomized, irradiated and reconstituted mice and a proline-rich polypeptide (PRP), glass-nonadherent thymocytes (NAT) were shown to contain a precursor of helper cells, and glass-adherent thymocytes (GAT) a precursor of suppressor cells; in the humoral immune response to SRBC [sheep red blood cells]. Precursor cells differentiate into helper or suppressor cells upon in vitro contact with PRP. Moreover, NAT and GAT fractions are related to PNA+ [peanut agglutinin-positive] and PNA- thymocytes, respectively. This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
