Water Yield Estimation in Western United States

Abstract
The mean annual water yield of a watershed is used in the planning, design, and management of some watershed projects, especially those involving irrigation. A statistical analysis of water yield data from 605 watersheds in the western United States resulted in five equations, one for each of five regions of hydrologic similarity. The separation of the study area into these five regions improved the accuracy of estimateion significantly. The equations explained as much as 95 percent of the variance in mean annual water yield.
