Immunological reactions of Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepraemurium grown in cayman

Abstract
Caymans injected with live M. leprae or M. lepraemurium died within 8 weeks. Sections made from their lymph nodes and spleen revealed areas of histiocyte infiltrations, fuchsinophilic histiocytes, and acid-fast bacilli. Extracts from the organs reacted with anti-M. leprae and anti-M. lepraemurium anti-sera; and sera of the infected caymans reacted with the cytoplasms of M. leprae and M. lepraemurium, indicating an immunological identity of the antigens.
