Abstract
Pronounced hyperglycemia appeared as early as 30 minutes after administration of 2-DG(50 mg/100 g b.w.) and lasted for 4 to 6 hours. Blood sugar approached control values at 12 hours. There was an accompanying decreased stainability and degranulation of the cytoplasm and increased nuclear size of both alpha and beta cells of the pancreatic islets in these intact rats. It is suggested that there is increased secretory activity in both types of cells. Keywords
