Abstract
Techniques were developed for the isolation and axenic culture of medullary tissue explants from female gametophytic fronds of Chondrus crispus Stackh. When a strain with narrow thick branches was grown in vitro in a special, enriched seawater medium with added growth regulators, the colourless medullary tissue explants (2-mm cubes) produced fronds exhibiting the normal morphology of the parent plant. Keywords
