Transverse magnetoresistance of high purity chromium foils

Abstract
Measurements of the transverse magnetoresistance ratio (Δρ/ρ) have been made using high purity chromium strips in annealed and plastically deformed states, in fields up to 26.3 koe over the temperature range 90° to 350°K. Anomalies were observed at the Néel temperature (311°K) but were not apparent at the spin flip temperature (ca. 122°K). At constant temperature Δρ/ρ varies with applied field, H, as Hn ; the exponent n is temperature dependent. The results are discussed in terms of Overhauser's concept of chromium as a spin density wave anti-ferromagnet.
