Abstract
Complement titrations in terms of 50% hemolytic units detd. on sera of normal individuals, tuberculous patients and tuberculous patients receiving ACTH showed highest activity in the tuberculous group and least activity in the normal group. Analysis of variance showed differences between the complement activity of normal and tuberculous patients to be significant. A significant correlation was observed between complement levels and time after hormone admn. indicating a trend toward increased complement activity after long continued ACTH admn. A highly significant correlation was seen between the concn. of gamma globulin and complement level, increased complement activity being associated with decreased gamma globulin concn. No correlation between complement activity and other electrophoretic components (albumin, alpha-1 and alpha-2 globulins, beta-globulin and fibrinogen) was observed.
