Abstract
Azotobacter indicum was grown on media which contained D-glucose-1-C14, D-glucose-2-C14, D-glucose-6-C14, D-mannose-1-C14, or D-galactose-1-C14. The radioactive polysaccharides produced were hydrolyzed and the specific activities of the isolated D-glucose and L-rhamnose were measured. The sugars were degraded and the distribution of activity in the individual carbon atoms was determined. The results suggest that some L-rhamnose is formed from D-glucose by a pathway which involves the breakdown of the glucose carbon skeleton. This publication has 29 references indexed in Scilit:
