Abstract
Voluntary Employment Agreements (VEAs) are a recent phenomenon in Queensland industrial relations. This article explores their linkages with the deregulation and flexibility arguments generated, in particular, by the New Right. The necessity for this type of legislation to achieve flexibility and increased productivity is questioned against a background of case study evidence. It is contended that flexibility is attainable within the arbitration system, and legislation of this type lends to the erosion of unionism. Keywords
