Abstract
Five cases of Torula histolytica (Cryptococcus neoformans) meningitis are reported. Including the 5 cases reported by the authors, 172 cases of torulosis have been reported to date. Therapeutic agents employed in reported cases are analyzed. As yet no method of treatment has proved effective. The diagnosis is discussed. The disease may be confused with brain tumor, sub-arachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, brain abscess, encephalitis, and meningitis of pyogenic, luetic, tuberculous or virus origin. The neurosurgical implications are considered in some detail. A summary of all reported cases of central nervous system torulosis, a review of therapeutic measures employed, and an analysis of reported cases since 1945 are presented in tables. Keywords
