Detection of Pion Single Charge Exchange in Zirconium

Abstract
The reaction Zr91(π+,π0)Nb*91 was observed by detecting the decay proton p̃ from the isobaric analog state Nb*91 in the sequential process Zr91(π+,π0p̃)Zr90. The observed cross section for an incident pion energy of 30 MeV is 1.1 ± 0.8 mb, and is in reasonable agreement with theoretical calculations.
