Abstract
This study examined Machiavellianism and choice of informal leadership in task-oriented groups. The Mach V questionnaire was administered at the beginning of a Management Simulation in which 120 college seniors participated as 24 groups for 10 wk. Group members sociometrically selected High Machs significantly more often as informal group leaders at the end of 5 hr. of participation but not at a second time at the end of the simulation. This may be attributable, in part, to the existence of “latitude for improvisation” at the beginning of the simulation but not at the end when the groups had become more structured. Keywords
