Abstract
Previous suspicions that Syrian hamsters, unlike other mammals, have very few detectable histocompatibil-ity genes have been confirmed. Not more than 3 loci are necessary to account for rejections of skin homografts interchanged between members of 3 different strains, each of which behaves as if it is almost homogeneous with respect to histocompatibility genes. Only 1 or 2 of the loci detected appear to be responsible for the production of strong transplantation antigens. Keywords
