Effect of Hepatic Artery Ligation on Portal Pressure in the Normal and Cirrhotic Rat

Abstract
Summary Portal pressures were measured in 16 normal rats, one normal rabbit, and 18 cirrhotic rats, before and immediately after ligation of the hepatic artery. The normal mean drop in portal pressure was approximately 12%. The cirrhotic groups showed approximately the same effect. The hepatic artery would appear to play a minimal role in the portal hypertension of experimental cirrhosis.
