The Absorption Spectrum of the Component c of Cytochrome

Abstract
The component c of cytochrome, unlike the other intracellular haematin compounds, can readily be extracted and obtained in solution in a form suitable for spectroscopic examination (Keilin, 1930). No quantitative measurements on the extracted pigment have yet been published. Euler (1927) has carried out measurements on a number of yeast extracts containing cytochrome c, but these contained other hsematin compounds in addition. The present paper describes the results obtained with the spectroscopically pure pigment extracted horn yeast.
