Abstract
A survey of two elementary schools showed that the most frequent reason for the referral of learning disabled children to a resource room was due to behavior problems. The authors suggest that there should be a preventive program for behavior problems before they are referred for an evaluation and placement in a special setting. This preventive program should include, but not be limited to: workshops directed toward behavior modification techniques for classroom teachers; affective training in the classroom; a Parents' Discussion Night directed toward the emotional development of the child; in-service courses for all elementary teachers; and evaluation of the program through record keeping/graphing, use of outside evaluators, a teacher exchange program, and a teacher questionnaire to determine effectiveness of the program. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
