Abstract
5 Turkish words were paired with 5 colors varying in brightness. A loud tone (UCS) producing a GSR (UCR) was conditioned to the word paired with the darkest color. GSRs to the other words were then obtained. Found that a mediated verbal similarity scale was established, and that the generalization gradient over the major part of this dimension was a decreasing function of the distance of the test stimulus from the CS. Results discussed in terms of Hull's principles of primary and secondary generalization and Osgood's analysis of language behavior. 15 references.
