Abstract
An inexpensive pyrolyzer has been developed for use in conjunction with a gas chromatograph. In this device, the sample is magnetically moved into a hot zone where pyrolysis occurs. The pyrolysis products are swept onto the gas chromatographic column and are analyzed. Sample and residue can be weighed. A constant pyrolysis temperature can be maintained, and premature volatilization of the sample does not occur. Pyrochromatograms of polyethylene and of polystyrene were obtained that show the satisfactory performance of this pyrolyzer. Keywords
