ROENTGENOLOGIC FEATURES OF DERMATOMYOSITIS OF CHILDHOOD

Abstract
Dermatomyositis of childhood, a distinct clinical and pathologic entity of early to middle childhood, is characterized by weakness, rash, and muscular tenderness. Roentgenologic identification of the disease has usually been limited to a late stage when severe contractures and extensive calcification are present. Recognition of the characteristic muscular and subcutaneous edema early in the disease should establish the diagnosis quickly and allow the institution of appropriate therapy before crippling fibrosis and calcification take place.
