Abstract
Present distribution of calcareous Basse Provence's landscapes has only been settled at the end of the boreal time and during the atlantic time. The cli' matic climax vegetation, which included «garrigues» were little influenced by men. Since, all of them have been modified in different ways. The highland communities were removed. In decidous forests, high exploitation caused the oaks to prevail. «Garrigues » are now clearer and more spacious. Scattered trees or even few forests is all that remains of the old vegetation. Keywords
