Abstract
Crude extracts and partially purified preparation obtained from Pedicoccus cerevisiae, strain E66, have active catalase activity. Differing from the classicial heme-iron catalases, the catalytic principle is insensitive to cyanide and azide. The catalytic activity was not inhibited by metal chelating agents, and could not, after a variety of treatments, be stimulated by the flavin coenzymes. Based upon observations with regard to heat sensitivity, inactivation with trichloroacetic acid, behavior during ammonium sulfate or acetone fractionation, and ultracentrifugation, this catalytic principle is regarded as probably protein and enzymic in nature. Keywords
