Synthesis and Polymerization of a New Class of Oligosaccharide-and Polyamide-Macromers Having a Styrene End-Group

Abstract
As an approach to synthesis of oligo- and polysaccharide-containing polymers, two types of polystyrenes having pendant carbohydrate groups were prepared. Their functions, especially amphiphilic behaviors in water, were revealed. A new polyamide macromer having a vinylbenzyl group (Mn 3000-3800) was prepared by the anionic polymerization of bicyclic oxalactam followed by the reaction with p-vinylbenzylamine. Another polyamide macromer telechelated with amino groups (Mn, 1400 and 4100) was also prepared by the similar method.
