Abstract
A procedure is given for shaping 1*2 digital switches on x- or y-cut LiNbO/sub 3//LiTaO/sub 3/ for prescribed values of crosstalk in order to reduce the voltage-length product. The method is based on a normal mode analysis using ordinary coupled mode theory parameters and a known solution for shaped branches. A factor of three improvement in voltage-length product is obtained, compared to linear branches. Keywords
