Feeding patterns of normal and ventromedial hypothalamic lesioned male and female rats.

Abstract
The eating patterns of Sprague-Dawley rats made hyperphagic by ventromedial hypothalamic lesions revealed an acute dynamic period immediately following surgery which resembled the persistent eating of normal but food-deprived animals, while the chronic dynamic period was characterized by a parceling of food intake into larger and more frequent than normal meals. The presence of a dark-light cycle had a profound influence on postoperative feeding patterns and marked sex differences were found within this day-night rhythmicity.
