Abstract
The Grüneisen parameter is derived in closed form in terms of the elements of the secular determinant. The method is applied to face- and body-centered structures with nearest- and next-nearest-neighbor central forces. Results are presented for seven elements, and comparisons are made with some commonly used approximate methods. Keywords
