Stimulation of 5-Nucleotidase Activity in the Pancreatic Islets of Rats by Glucagon

Abstract
Chemical micromethods were used for studying the effect of glucagon on the AMP- and ATP-splitting enzyme activities in the endocrine pancreas from rats. Glucagon administration for 8 days stimulated the adenosine monophosphate-splitting enzyme activity in the islets but not in the exocrine pancreas or the heart. The rate of ATP hydrolysis remained unaffected by the hormone in both the endocrine and exocrine pancreas.
