A (K+2)nd Order Formula for Asymmetry Doublets in Rotational Spectra

Abstract
Higher order perturbation theory is used to derive a formula for K type doubling of the energy levels of a rigid asymmetric rotor. The result is ΔW=ΔW0[1+{A+BJ(J+1)+CJ2(J+1)2}β2],where ΔW0 is the Wang2 Kth-order result for the splitting of the energy levels, β is an asymmetry parameter, and A, B, C are independent of the structural parameters and of the quantum number J. A, B, C, have been tabulated for all values of K up to K=14.Keywords
