Abstract
Androgen ablation by bilateral orchidectomy has long been considered the gold standard against which other forms of treatment for the management of advanced prostate cancer can be evaluated. It now is recognized that the use of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone analogs provides a form of primary endocrine therapy that is as effective as surgical castration for the treatment of disseminated disease. Keywords
