RUBELLA VACCINATION TRIAL

Abstract
“Cendevax” rubella vaccine was administered to 45 sero‐negative women. The vaccine produced antibodies to rubella in all cases, but titres were lower than after natural infection. Mild side effects such as cervical lymphadenopathy, sore throat and malaise occurred in 50% of cases. Arthritis occurred in only one case (2%). The vaccine was also given to 10 sero‐positive women, and a booster response occurred in one woman whose original antibody level was low. This indicates that rubella vaccine is effective in boosting low levels of antibodies.
