Abstract
The volume magnetostriction is reported for a series of well-known intermediate-valence and heavy-fermion systems with Ce, Eu, and Yb. An expression is derived which reproduces the volume magnetostriction of all these systems quantitatively with the aid of independently measured microscopic parameters. A very large difference is found between superconducting and nonsuperconducting . .AE
