Nathanson, N., (The Johns Hopkins Univ. Schl. Hygiene, Baltimore, Maryland 21205), I. S. Thind, W. O'Leary, and W. H. Price. Histological studies of the monkey neurovirulence of group B arboviruses. IV. Evaluation of an attenuated strain (E5) of Langat virus. Amer. J. Epid., 1968, 88: 103–111.—Graded doses of the parent M3 and the attenuated E5 strain of Langat virus were inoculated intracerebrally or intraspinally into a total of 59 rhesus monkeys. Histological sections from hemispheres, brainstem and cord were evaluated for viral lesions under blind code, using a previously developed grading scale. The attenuated E5 strain showed a reduced neurovirulence, less than that of 17D Yellow fever virus and greater than that of attenuated vaccine poliovirus 3.
