Abstract
The well known first-order variational expression of the phonon-limited electrical resistivity is examined for the alkali metals by taking into account the correct energy dependence of the electron distribution function. It appears that, at low temperatures, the energy dependence of the electron distribution function is enhanced by the umklapp process and thus leads to a large reduction in the electrical resistivity. Keywords
