Abstract
The crystal structure of the title compound has been determined by Patterson and Fourier methods from three-dimensional X-ray data, and refined by a full-matrix least-squares procedure to R 0.03 for 333 observed independent reflections. Crystals are hexagonal, space group P321, with a= 6.764(8), c= 8.088(10)Å, Z= 1. The compound exists as the mixed-anion salt Al(IO3)2NO3,6H2O rather than the double salt Al(NO3)3,2Al(IO3)3,18H2O. The structure shows an iodate–nitrate association and the hydrated cation [Al(H2O)6]3+ is hydrogen bonded to iodate but not to nitrate. Keywords
