Music Therapy with Offenders in a Substance Abuse/Mental Illness Treatment Program

Abstract
A partnership between Recovery Resources and The Cleveland Music School Settlement resulted in music therapy becoming an integral component of the treatment received by clients in the Substance Abuse/Mental Illness (SA/MI) program. This paper describes a service delivery model for implementation of music therapy within this setting. The assessment process, goals, and interventions that were used will be outlined. Specific documentation and evaluation techniques will also be described.
