Abstract
After a successful preliminary investigation of preserving mold cultures by vacuum desiccation from the frozen state, the entire collection at the Laboratory of 1850 molds, more than 900 yeasts, and approximately 400 bacterial cultures were processed in a similar manner. The apparatus and methods were similar to those employed by numerous bacteriologists for the preservation of bacterial and yeast cultures. After 3l/2 years the lyopbil method applied to molds proved highly successful. In all cases tested molds retained their biochemical and physiological characteristics in unaltered form. Viability tests indicated almost all Aspergilli and Penicillia and representative species of Mucorales and Hyphomycetes can be successfully preserved in lyopbil. Attempts to preserve members of the Entomophthorales were unsuccessful. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
