Abstract
Temporary inhibition of the blood flow to the liver was performed in 20 patients with metastases by tightening slings around the hepatic artery for 16 h. Infusion of 5-FU [5-fluorouracil] started 2 days later through a catheter in the gastroduodenal artery. The response to the treatment as revealed by angiography was swelling of the liver and necrosis of the metastases. Thirteen patients responded favorably to the treatment. Complications such as abscess formation, 5-FU leakage, thrombosis of the hepatic artery and development of aneurysm at the entry of the infusion catheter occurred in some patients. This publication has 19 references indexed in Scilit:
