Abstract
The encyrtid parasite Diversinervus elegans Silvestri, imported from Eritrea in 1953, has attained a moderate abundance on black scale, Saissetia oleae (Bernard), in southern California. Its distribution, host range, and habits are described with a view to its probable use in other areas for the biological control of S. oleae and other lecaniine coccids. The developmental biology of this internal parasite is reported as viewed continuously within the body of its host. A peculiar action of the parasite for prompting the host to excrete its honeydew so that it will not interfere with the parasite's oviposition through the anus of the host is described.
