Pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx

Abstract
A case of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx occurring in a 33 yr old male is reported. The clinical and histopathological aspects of this rare neoplasm are described. After a quick review of the most important classifications of rhabdomyosarcoma, a division into 2 basic groups, i.e., pleomorphic and fetal rhabdomyosarcoma was suggested, while the botryoid sarcoma and alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma should be considered as 2 subgroups of fetal rhabdomyosarcoma. From a comprehensive review of world literature on the subject, the well documented cases described are only 7, including the present case. The present case is the 3rd one after the instances of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma reported by Filipo and Crifo (1964) and Rodriguez and Ziskind (1970).
