Abstract
Recruitment of inflammatory cells into the airways is a critical event that triggers and sustains the clinical manifestations of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Since the identification of the family of chemotactic cytokines, known as chemokines, as critical regulators of cell trafficking in the immune system, these molecules have come to the center stage in the field of inflammation and immunity. The goal of this article will be to summarize the recent developments in our understanding of the complex role that chemokines play in the pathogenesis of asthma and COPD.Keywords
