Functional Significance of the Radioisotope Renogram: an Experimental Study

Abstract
In dogs the left kidney was placed upon the flank or subcutaneously explanted. Sodium ortho-iodo-hippurate was given intravenously and a scintillator probe (2801A) of a Picker dual detection system with Texas ratemeter was placed in close apposition to the kidney. The system lends itself to determining the effects of vaso-active agents (noradrenalin, angiotensin, histamine) and of the effects of renal arterial, venous and ureteral occlusions. Each of these procedures or materials produces changes in the renograms, none of which are specific.
