Abstract
The pituitaries of 19 men and 16 women who died unexpectedly were individually assayed for LH concentration, using the ovarian ascorbic acid depletion procedure. Pituitaries from 3 infants and 1 child contained small but definite amounts of LH. The average LH concentration in the pituitaries of the 28 adults studied was 2.86 mg of NIH-LH-Sl per g wet weight. In 10 young adult males, pituitary LH concentrations varied from 0.70 to 2.46 mg of NIH-LH-Sl per g wet weight, and in 7 older males they varied from 0.72 to 3.99 mg. In 5 adult women of premenopausal age. pituitary LH concentrations ranged from 0.24 to 5.14 mg of NIH-LH-Sl per g wet weight, and in 4 women of postmenopausal age they varied from 2.04 to 15.13 mg.
