Reversed-phase liquid-liquid partition chromatography using high molecular weight polymers coated or bonded to the surface of Zipax® chromatographic support is described. The effect of column temperatures on efficiency and retention times is reported. The change in retention with modifier percentage and modifier type was studied. Approximate relationship for predicting capacity ratio values as a function of column temperature, modifier and modifier percentage was found. A survey of typical applications including gradient elution techniques and separation of fused-ring aromatics, automobile exhaust condensates, natural products, hashish extracts, vitamins and biochemicals, and the use of GPC as a clean-up method is reported.
